Adeyemi's Story

Justice

For Adeyemi

29th day of April, 2019 was “Good Monday” for Mr. Adeyemi (a father of two children) as he got his case struck out by the Ilesha Magistrate Court 2 as a result of our intervention.

Mr Adeyemi, a commercial motorcyclist got into trouble when the motorcycle given to him on hire purchase ( locally known as ” balance and carry”) was stolen from him at gun point. He was arrested and charged to court for stealing the said motorcycle.

After spending six months in prison awaiting trial, his case was struck out yesterday and consequently discharged through the effort of the Rehab team represented by U.S Oni, R.O Muhammed and R.O Ayinola, who represented him in court pro bono.

While making the application for the case to be strike out on behalf of the accused, Uyi Samuel Oni, informed the court that since the Prosecution is unable to call its witness, the charge against the accused must be struck out and the right of the accused person to presumption of innocence as contained in the Constitution must be upheld.

Upon discharge, Mr Adeyemi was reunited with his family in Ilesha, Osun state and was coached with life skills, while effort is currently being made to see he return back to his vocation as a Panel Beater.
